NT0876 thru NT1045 Added to Price Guide

Hello there.  I think we are on the down hill side of the price guide “revision A”! I can probably get the rest of the cards up online in the next week or so…hopefully sooner.  Once that is done…we can start to tweak as needed.

Added today are all of the 0111-XXXX cards.  These were 1970’s era cards according to the Nickel Tour.  I am listing them all as “VC”…or very common.  There are a couple nuances to the list though, so check it out.

Until next time…

An Interesting Southern California Folder

The other day I was browsing around eBay and found this postcard folder for just a few dollars.  It has a bunch of aerial photos of beach cities in Southern California in it…Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Newport Beach, Long Beach…etc.  But, it also has an aerial shot of Disneyland on the back…one that should look a little familiar to most collectors.  The info on the folder says “Distributed by Mitock & Sons, 13561 Venture Blvd, Sherman Oaks Calif.”  No date of publication is given, but the folder is also identified as P90406.

The photo is the same image at NT0528 thru NT0530.  There is a copy of NT0528 for sale on eBay right now actually.  Click here to take a look.

Anyway…I hope you all had a good Halloween…it’s always chaos at my house.  Over a thousand kids again this year!

Until next time…

Panorama Card – Disney Family Museum

Here’s an interesting card from the Disney Family Museum that I picked up recently.  The card has a caption on the back that reads.”The Disneyland of Walt’s Imagination…”, but does not give any information on why the diorama (which was built in 2010) was of the given era evident on the card.  I assumed when I bought it that the diorama was modeled after the Disneyland of today, but a brief closer look clearly shows that it is not.

Looking closely, you can see the Mine Train in the back, Rainbow Ridge, the Skyway, the People Mover, the Indian Village, and other features that put the diorama around 1960 or so.  (Maybe you hardcore historians will correct me there…)

Anyway…this card is still available in the shop if you find yourself in the Presidio of San Francisco.

Until next time…

The Pluto Postcard Mystery – NT0757

The other night when I was going through my 1-XXX cards, I came across this little mystery.   The Nickel Tour calls out several versions of this card…NT0757  (1-330 DT35932C) with text in red, NT0858 (010330 DT35932C) and NT0858A (same number as NT0858) which it claims are the same as NT0757, but numbered 010330 DT 35932C.

Shown here though are two cards that are both labelled 1-330 DT35932C and which have totally different text color.  The picture itself is the same.  The backs are blue lettered and identical.

So…I wonder what others of you out there have in your collections.  According to disneylandpostcards.net, the NT0858 and NT0858A both have yellow text.  My copy of what I thought was NT0858 actually has red text!  I am curious what you have in your collections…and which of these cards is truly hard to find.

It’s a minor problem…but the fact that the yellow texted version of 1-330 is not mentioned in the Nickel Tour makes me wonder if this is a rare card, or was it just missed.  I think I have seen the yellow texted version on eBay…but it has been a while.

Let me know what you think.

Until next time…

NT0657 thru NT0781B cards now in the Price Guide!

NT0751 – Knights of the Magic Kingdom

At long last, I have added the next set of cards to the price list.  If I didn’t have a day job, I could probably bang the rest of this thing out in short order, but alas!  Anyway…take a look and let me know what you think.

Until next time…

NT0088 – The Mark Twain in Black and White

Just this last week there was a very rare Disneyland postcard up for auction on eBay.  There was a reserve on the card, and it had a number of bidders…but the reserve was not met at $113.  The card I am speaking of is NT0088, the black and white card of the Mark Twain river boat.

These cards are rare…there is no doubt about that.  I have seen them on eBay only on rare occasions…and it’s been a long time since I saw one last.

Tonight, the card is back up on eBay with a “Buy It Now” price of $175.  I want to make an editorial comment here, but I will leave you to form your own opinions.  I won’t be bidding on the card.  That’s not to say that it couldn’t be bought “now”…maybe some collector who has not been paying attention over the last week and who needs this card to complete the set will discover the listing.  Either way…I wish the seller well.

In the mean time…check out this photo of the Mark Twain I took last week.  Still fantastic…60 years on!

Until next time…

Walt’s 100th Bitrthday

Recently, I managed to get this set on eBay after keeping my eyes out for it for quite some time.  This set commemorates the 100th birthday of Walt Disney with some great images of him and the Disneyland park.  I am showing a couple of the cards here that I think give a great picture of the pride and joy that Walt took from this his “magnum opus”.

Locating all ten of these cards individually would be a challenge.  Getting them together as a set is probably a little easier…but patience is required if you are waiting on eBay.  As I have said before, I haven’t really been to any postcrd shows…they always seem to happen when I can’t attend!  But…maybe they are more common there.

Oh…for those of you waiting for me to add to the price guide…I am just about to do that for the next numbers in the list, so stay tuned!

Until next time…

Trip Report – Disneyland October 2012

My family and I made the trek down to Disneyland and California Adventure over the weekend.  This was Columbus day weekend, so things were a tad “tight”, but we still had a good time.  To be extra clear…for the record…don’t let anyone tell you that Columbus Day is not crowded at Disneyland…it is most definitely crowded.

On the postcard front, I continue to be amazed at the dwindling number of cards available.  All told…I only found nine regular cards on offer, one fold out set, one special edition Radiator Springs card, two different special sets in tins (Mary Blair Small World, and Castles), one California Adventure set in a box (12 cards, 4 unique) and then two rather interesting cards that came with a charm bracelet.

On the other hand…the pin madness continues.  Pins…and more pins….everywhere.  If you collect pins…I have nothing against the hobby.  I have just always felt that someting that is manufactured from day one to be a collectible…really isn’t.  Eventually…it will be worthless.  (Just my humble opinion).  Think Beanie Babies.

Going back to the funky bracelet post cards…these were rather interesting. One of the cards was a reproduction of an early multi-view…NT0496, I think.  The other, was a California Adventure card that was not available without the charms.  $39.99 and $44.99 respectively.  Sorry…not biting!

As to the actually parks…we had a good time…and I was amazed at the detail in Cars Land.  You feel as if you are actually on the movie “set”.  Perfect…down to the last detail.  Fantastic!

Until next time…

NT 1809 – Toontown

I picked up this card on eBay the other day as part of a lot.  As a collector of these cards, I have never quite understood why the Toontown cards seem to go for more than a lot of other cards that came before them.  Are they really that much rarer? Were they just not on the racks very long?  In either case, the cards do pop up from time to time on eBay and do go for anywhere between $5 and $15 depending on the card.

I am actually headed to the park tomorrow so won’t have a chance to update guide much this weekend.  So, I will catch up with you next week.

Until next time…
