NT0761 and NT0762 – The Alweg Monorail

I was getting ready to update the price guide for the 1-XXX cards, and thought I would post on what is a semi-common occurrence in this set of cards.  The Nickel Tour says that multiple publishers were working on printing these cards (that’s why there are slightly different number combinations 1-xxx, 1-xxx SCxxxx and 1-xxx DTxxxxxC).  Sometimes the same images are on cards with different numbers, sometimes different images are on cards with the same number.  In this particular case, we have a different image, but an identical back.

I am just guessing, but the park must have been using three producers of cards because they were selling tons of them.  Nowadays, a lot of these cards are very common and not hard to find.  Some are harder…but I have to believe they are out there somewhere.

Anyway…I’ll have this section of the price guide up in the next day or so.

Until next time…

NT1640 – Christmas 1988

The other day on eBay I found a card I had not seen before.  It is in the Nickel Tour, I just had not taken any notice of it.  This is the type of card that I suspect if one goes to a postcard show is probably out there and available, but on eBay rarely comes up.

It’s actually a really nice card having been modeled after a Walt Disney Christmas greeting from 1938.  The characters are clearly updated, but the general feel of the image is vintage.  A brief look on the internet did not yield any images of the original 1938 Christmas greeting.  If you happen to have a scan of it…I’d be interested in checking it out.

Until next time…

Novelty Card Prices Added to Price Guide

Hi…I took a crack at adding the Novelty cards to the price guide tonight.  These cards are all from Chapter 5 of the Nickel Tour.  There are a pile of super rare cards in this set…and others that are not so rare, but still not easy to come by.

Let me know what you think.

Until next time…

Jumbo Cards Added to Price Guide

Hello…I have just added the Jumbo cards to the price guide.  Let me know what you think.  All these cards are from page 195 of the second edition Nickel Tour.

Just prior to his passing, Ken Eslick wrote a fascinating addition to his site describing the situation with cards NT0483 to NT0492.  Check it out here.

Until next time…

NT-1287 Fantasy in the Sky

I think I have mentioned on this blog in the past that I live in Northern California.  So, as such, I don’t get down to the park in Anaheim very often, and I certainly don’t make it to WDW in Florida very often.  Recently though, I have been to Disneyland a few times and one of the more memorable take-aways for me was the fire-works show that they put on each night in the summer time.

The last time I was there, I was actually out looking for postcards when the show started.  I have seen a lot of fireworks shows…not tons, but enough to know what is a good show and what is not so good.  Well…the show at Disneyland is pretty epic!  It just keeps going and going…until you get to this crazy finale.

I don’t know what fireworks of that nature cost…but, being able to have a front row seat to that show is worth at least a decent part of the price of admission to the park (what is it now…$88, $90…I forget).

Anyway…this card, NT-1287 shows a picture of the show from the 1970’s (I suspect).  I would be curious to know from regulars at the park how the show has grown and changed over the years.   Oh…this card is pretty common by the way…you should be able to pick up a copy for under a dollar, especially if it is part of a lot on eBay.

Until next time…

Liberty Square at Disney World

I wanted to take a brief break from all the price guide building and post a card that I just got in an eBay auction.  I live on the west coast, so I do not get to Disney World that often…in fact I have only been twice.  But this card represents one of my favorite parts of the park.  The architecture, costumes, and overall feel of the place are a great tribute to our nation’s origins.

As I metioned in a previous post, Walt Disney had originally intended for something like this to be put in place in Anaheim at Disneyland.  But, presumably, as plans for Walt Disney World matured, the concept was moved there.  There is certainly more space there…so I suspect that played into the move.

Until next time…

I am in Price Guide mode at the moment…so I got to the series B cards tonight (NT0267 through NT0311).  As I have mentioned before, I am not including variants…except for those captured in the Nickel Tour.

As always, feedback is most welcome, and will be quickly acted upon.
