Le Grand Courtyard – Then and Now

NT0803One of the things that I think so many people like about Disneyland is that it doesn’t really change that much.  Sure..it does change, they have the cranes erected over Thunder Mountain as we speak.  But, there is still a constancy to it.  The buildings on Main Street, the canal boats in Fantasyland, the castle…you get the idea.

When I was at the park this past April, I decided to take a couple of “Then and Now” shots and compare them.  I featured one of these comparisons (looking down Main Street) in a post not too long ago.  Today I have a comparison of Le Grand Courtyard, from the late 1960’s when the post card photo was taken…and 2013.

As you can see…not a whole lot has NT0803_nowchanged in the courtyard since the day it was completed.  But there are a few things to note.  Some of the paint colors have been altered, most notably in that inset cupola in the back.  The walls are yellow now…as opposed to a more grayish blue from before (sorry if that isn’t quite right, I am a little color blind!).  And of course the lady with the beehive isn’t there today and no flowers are for sale!

Next time you are in the park…bring some cards along and see if you can get any good then and now shots.  I would be happy to share them.

Until next time…

About Todd

Hello. I have been collecting Disneyland postcards and paper items for a few years now and figured I would start to share my collection with any and all who are interested. I actually started blogging on Blogger (sundrycollectibles.blogspot.net) but after a while realized I wanted a dedicated Disney site since it is a fairly niche hobby. Enjoy!
