{"id":31,"date":"2013-08-22T05:27:52","date_gmt":"2013-08-22T05:27:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sundrycollectibles.net\/comics\/?p=31"},"modified":"2013-10-25T15:04:26","modified_gmt":"2013-10-25T22:04:26","slug":"thor-132-and-the-mysterious-grading-spike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sundrycollectibles.net\/comics\/?p=31","title":{"rendered":"Thor 132 and the Mysterious Grading Spike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sundrycollectibles.net\/comics\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Thor_1321.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-35\" alt=\"Thor_132\" src=\"https:\/\/sundrycollectibles.net\/comics\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Thor_1321-201x300.jpg\" width=\"201\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sundrycollectibles.net\/comics\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Thor_1321-201x300.jpg 201w, https:\/\/sundrycollectibles.net\/comics\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Thor_1321.jpg 430w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 201px) 100vw, 201px\" \/><\/a>About 20 years ago I stumbled across a copy of Thor 169 at an estate sale. \u00a0It came with a number of other Silver Age Marvel books. \u00a0If I recall correctly there was a heavily water damaged Amazing Spider-Man 35, an Ironman 8, Hulk 104, and a few other books that I do not recall. \u00a0It was a great find, even though the books were not in very good shape.<\/p>\n<p>The Thor book lingered with me though. \u00a0I read it, and enjoyed it. \u00a0Especially the writing. \u00a0Stan Lee&#8217;s writing was just so over-the-top! \u00a0And that book happened to be the origin of Galactus&#8230;so what wasn&#8217;t to love! \u00a0Well&#8230;long story short, after realizing that the books were pretty cheap at the time, I ended up putting together a near complete run of Kirby Thor. \u00a0I still don&#8217;t have Journey into Mystery #83&#8230;but I&#8217;ll get there soon enough.<\/p>\n<p>Taking a quick look at the CGC data for these books, I thought I would feature Thor 132 in this post (cover above&#8230;and also in my blog banner if you look closely). \u00a0This is another fantastic Thor book&#8230;Tana Nile, the Indestructible, the dramatic splash of Ego at the end of the story&#8230;it&#8217;s all pure Kirby! \u00a0 But, as the name of the blog suggests, let&#8217;s take a look at the rarity of the book, shall we?!?! \u00a0Check out this plot of CGC public data on graded books in and around this issue number (Y-axis is number of <a href=\"https:\/\/sundrycollectibles.net\/comics\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/thor_126_140.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-36\" alt=\"thor_126_140\" src=\"https:\/\/sundrycollectibles.net\/comics\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/thor_126_140-300x296.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"296\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sundrycollectibles.net\/comics\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/thor_126_140-300x296.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sundrycollectibles.net\/comics\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/thor_126_140.jpg 525w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>copies graded, X-axis is the issue number). \u00a0Now&#8230;CGC states clearly on their website that this data should not be used to make conclusions on rarity of a given book&#8230;but clearly this data is not meaningless! \u00a0Something odd is going on here. \u00a0I don&#8217;t have any explanation, other than a hunch that this book might have been part of the Mile High II hoard. \u00a0Other than that, know that if you want a high grade copy of \u00a0Thor 132, you probably shouldn&#8217;t have to pay what you would for issues 131 or 133 (or other surrounding issues)!<\/p>\n<p>I hope you like what you see in this one post&#8230;this is pretty much the direction \u00a0I want to go with this blog. \u00a0Sometimes I will focus more on the comics themselves, and sometimes on the rarity data&#8230;but overall a healthy does of both!<\/p>\n<p>Until next time&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>P.S.
