{"id":5,"date":"2013-08-20T05:54:33","date_gmt":"2013-08-20T05:54:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sundrycollectibles.net\/aviationpaper\/?p=5"},"modified":"2013-08-20T06:45:16","modified_gmt":"2013-08-20T06:45:16","slug":"hello-and-welcome-to-vintage-aviation-paper","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sundrycollectibles.net\/aviationpaper\/?p=5","title":{"rendered":"Welcome to Vintage Aviation Paper!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Hi folks&#8230;I am still working out the formatting on this blog&#8230;but wanted to get the content started here. \u00a0For the first post on this blog I am going to copy over something I wrote last year on my original <a href=\"http:\/\/sundrycollectibles.blogspot.com\/\">Sundry Collectibles<\/a> blog. \u00a0Have no fear though&#8230;I have plenty of original material that I will be presenting in the weeks to come!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>__________<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sundrycollectibles.net\/aviationpaper\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Clipper_0001.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-11\" alt=\"Clipper_0001\" src=\"https:\/\/sundrycollectibles.net\/aviationpaper\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Clipper_0001-300x191.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"191\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sundrycollectibles.net\/aviationpaper\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Clipper_0001-300x191.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sundrycollectibles.net\/aviationpaper\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Clipper_0001-1024x652.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sundrycollectibles.net\/aviationpaper\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Clipper_0001.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>I recently picked up this card of a Pan American World Airways Clipper flying above the San Francisco Bay. \u00a0It is not, perhaps, one of the most attractive aircraft ever built, but a little research has revealed that this was a rather capable aircraft in its day.<\/p>\n<p>The Boeing 377 was based on the C-97 <a href=\"https:\/\/sundrycollectibles.net\/aviationpaper\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Clipper.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-24\" style=\"border: 2px solid black;\" alt=\"Clipper\" src=\"https:\/\/sundrycollectibles.net\/aviationpaper\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Clipper-300x194.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"194\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sundrycollectibles.net\/aviationpaper\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Clipper-300x194.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sundrycollectibles.net\/aviationpaper\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Clipper-1024x664.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sundrycollectibles.net\/aviationpaper\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Clipper.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>military freighter, which had it&#8217;s heritage from the B-29 Superfortress. \u00a0It was a double deck aircraft and could seat up to 100 people depending on the layout (some had sleeper berths in them with a lounge on the lower deck). \u00a0It was actively used from 1947 through 1963 when the jet age basically replaced planes like this one.<\/p>\n<p>With the help of a magnifying glass, I was able to determine that this card is of N1025V, an aircraft that started life named as the Clipper \u00a0Celestial, was later changed to Clipper Rainbow, and finally Clipper America. \u00a0For more details, check out this\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=R2Waf72ajvY\" data-blogger-escaped-target=\"_blank\">video on the Pan Am operated Boeing 377<\/a>. \u00a0The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=7Fwp9Vheh8E\" data-blogger-escaped-target=\"_blank\">third part\u00a0<\/a>of this video is especially interesting. \u00a0It gives a contemporary perspective on the then giant aircraft and the amenities it offered.<\/p>\n<p>Until next time&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hi folks&#8230;I am still working out the formatting on this blog&#8230;but wanted to get the content started here. \u00a0For the first post on this blog I am going to copy over something I wrote last year on my original Sundry &hellip;
